Cedarbreaks Kennels is a small preservation breeding program in southern Ohio. We breed Shetland Sheepdogs to the AKC standard, and prioritize health and temperament. Regardless of what you plan to do with your dog, you have to be able to live with them first! Through careful breeding and specific socialization as they grow, our Shelties are well-balanced, beautiful, and cherished members of their families. Want to know what some of the people who have our shelties think? We've got pictures and testimonials here, and would be happy to share references with you.
What started as two pet Shelties in 1990 has grown into loving, showing, training and breeding Shelties and even playing with agility. Probably our proudest accomplishments have been with our two girls who are volunteer Therapy dogs at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Scout and Margo have made so many kids forget about their troubles and even participated in research studies on the benefits of using therapy dogs with patients who have sustained brain injuries.
Thanks for visiting! Take a look at some of the candid photos of our own dogs and our home, and see what others think about their Cedarbreaks shelties. If you are looking for a sheltie, or know someone who is, please contact us to learn more about us and our dogs.

Cedarbreaks Kennels started with Bud, He grew up with dogs and found an Akita by the side of the road and decided to teach it obedience. Bud and his son officially began breeding over twenty years ago. They bred and hunted with Golden Retrievers and Laborador Retrievers. Bud has competed in UKC hunt trials, AKC obedience, and served on the board of many dog clubs.
And then he met Pam. Pam had her first Sheltie in 1990, and had been wanting another one. When they met, Pam had a Collie named Buddy she had hoped to train as a service dog for her youngest daughter. Buddy had other plans. So Bud researched local breeders and got our foundation bitch, Whiteoaks Jean Louise Finch, in 2016. Scout was the beginning of the next chapter.
We breed our Shelties to the AKC breed standard, and health test all of our dogs. We believe that the temperament of your dog should be friendly and approachable, which isn't always easy to get. Temperament without a healthy dog is useless so rest assured we are selective about who we breed.
Bud is retired and keeps himself busy raising chickens and bees as well as dogs. He's an avid gardener and always likes to learn new things. Pam works at Cincinnati Children's and the dogs are her stress relief. She always loved Shelties, and Bud talked her into doing AKC Conformation about seven years ago. We've met so many amazing Sheltie people along the way who have become close friends. If we don't have what you're looking for, we can offer a referral to other local breeders.
Our youngest daughter has complex medical issues and she and Pam realized how much impact a visit from a friendly dog can have when you're in the hospital. After seeing dogs lift our daughter's spirit, Pam vowed to have a volunteer therapy dog if we ever had the right dog. Scout and Margo are both Therapy Dogs at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. and we're hoping Margo's daughter June will follow in their path when she gets a bit older. Margo typically has a therapy gig about once a week at the hospital.
We raise all puppies in our home and on our farm, and expose them to noises, experiences, and socialization from day one. They always have a home here if your situation changes, and we are available for support and mentoring at any time.

Margo's litter is due on Jan. 13, 2025!
Margo is our amazing therapy dog and Bud's constant companion. She's never met a person who didn't immediately become her friend. We joke that she has the personality of a Golden Retriever in a Sheltie body. Her past litters have been stunning, all with her unbeatable termperament. We are currently growing out a female from her last litter who looks promising for both show and therapy work.
Margo was bred to CH Jesstar Monaco (Matthew). He is 15 1/4", pure for sable, non white-factored, VWD, MDR1, CED, DM, PRA normal/normal. DMS 002:01/023:01 aabb, hips OFA good, OFA eyes normal.
Cedarbreaks Gone with the Wind (Scarlett)
Update: Scarlett is leaving for her new home in the new year!
Scarlett is a 6 year old sable female. She was our Covid puppy, so she didn't get used to going to dog shows, and doesn't enjoy them. That doesn't mean she isn't social, by any means. She is a beautiful, friendly girl. She gets along well with other dogs and loves to run in the yard. She is up to date on all vaccines and vet visits, and has had genetic testing completed. Her coat is a beautiful red shade.
Scarlett is Cedarbreaks Gone With the Wind - Am GCHB Can GCH GoldenHylite's The X Factor x Whiteoaks Jean Louise Finch. DOB May 7, 2019.

"You folks are amazing...I have had shelties all my life. They have all been special and wonderful. But never have I ever known of such a special and wonderful Sheltie with such a fun and loving and calm personality as Sparky!"
Chesney, son of Paisley and brother to Patton and Brad, is almost a champion in limited showing and is owned by Bella Thompson-Corwin at Belmark Shelties. We co-bred this liter of all show quality dogs.
"Oliver is 2 1/2 years old now. He is a great dog. He loves everyone especially children. He is a part of my weekly children's library and the kids love him more than the books! He is extremely smart and recognizes many words."
"Toby is our perfect big brother to our kids (2 and under!). He is incredibly gentle and patient, always up for walks and playing, and keeps a watchful, herding eye on his humans at all times! He is great with other dogs as well. Couldn't recommend Pam & Bud and their shelties more!"
